About me - Ian Brignall LRPS
I am a part-time dentist and part-time photographer, based near Sevenoaks in Kent, UK, specialising in capturing the beauty of nature. My professional journey began in full-time dentistry, but my growing passion for the natural world led me to transition into a dual career. Today, I balance my clinical precision with creative patience, using photography to explore and document nature and wildlife which like many people has helped me cope with professional stresses over the years.
Over the years, my craft has evolved alongside my gear. I have captured images with various systems, some more capable than others, initially with good compact cameras, moving on to the versatile Sony RX10 IV, the classic Canon 5D Mark III, and the nimble Canon 90D(borrowed). For the past year, however, I have been shooting exclusively with the groundbreaking Sony Alpha 1 II. This incredible camera allows me to more easily bridge the gap between technical execution and artistic vision, capturing the split-second moments of nature with great clarity. This has changed my photography no end and enabled me to capture images I could only once have dreamed of.
I was recently delighted to have been awarded my LRPS qualification from the Royal Photographic Society.
The pages on this site show a diverse mix of images from close-up macro to long distance zoom, from super fast shutter speeds to capture birds or insects in flight, to long exposure tripod work using neutral density filters, and indeed a limited amount of studio flower shots. The vast majority of images are a true representation of the recorded subject (albeit edited from RAW files) whilst a few have had an “artistic license” applied eg white/uniform background on bird or insect images.
I am now available for photographic projects; if I can help you, please contact me and I will get back to you (but sorry, no weddings).
In due course I hope to offer prints through an on-line shop, in the meantime, if you are interested in prints, please contact me via the Contact page.
